In 1962, six professors from the Dijon Conservatory (France) created the "Sextuor à vent de Dijon." This group's official debut took place on February 1, 1964, at the Dijon theater, as part of the Jeunnesses Musicalles de France program. The program included several original works written for this new wind ensemble, one of which was the Suite d'aprés Jean-Philippe Rameau, the work with which today's concert begins, a tribute and promotion of original music for this wind ensemble.
This concert is also a tribute to Jean-Marie Londeix, the recently deceased saxophonist and founding member of the "Sextuor à vent de Dijon." His contribution to the creation of new repertoire for saxophone and diverse ensembles is inescapable, and his influence has been felt worldwide.
