Since 2017, the "Guitars Don't Have Nostalgia" cycle has sought to trace the connection between the vibration of stringed instruments and the emotions they evoke, questioning whether they also feel those emotions. A cycle dedicated to the mastery, passion, and ingenuity of stringed instruments, organized by Casa das Artes Bissaya Barreto, which returns in November and December. This year, in addition to the guitar, the cycle explores the harp for the first time, with Sissi Rada, and the violin, with Gibrana Cervantes.
The cycle concludes on the 13th with Emil Saiz, a Spanish musician and composer, who explores inner space through sound. Fusing experimental electronic processing, guitar, and psychoacoustics, Emil's work delves into themes of transformation and dissolution—drawing inspiration from the subconscious, altered states, and memory to channel dreamlike, hypnotic, and intensely emotional soundscapes.
Their most recent release, Cycles of Disappearance, explores the relationship between sound and mind through colossal drones and disintegrated melodies that mirror their creative deconstruction process. The tracks were born from improvisations with manipulated guitar, building vast, fingerpicked landscapes where notes fall and contort.
