Sakamoto 1996
Precisely on the day that marks three years since the death of acclaimed composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, the Aula Magna in Lisbon hosts the concert "Sakamoto – 1996."
More than a tribute, this is an immersive performance that combines music and image, bringing together piano, violin, cello, and original video art on stage—evoking the multimedia dimension that marked the final years of the Japanese composer's work.
This trio is one of the few groups in the world to perform live the work 1996—presented by Sakamoto on two world tours—from the original scores, released in a rare edition and supervised by the composer himself.
Among the works performed are some of his most iconic soundtracks: The Last Emperor, Babel, Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence or Wuthering Heights.
Note: All pieces in the program are accompanied by original video art, conceived specifically for each work.
